Synopsis

This book explores the plural and complex processes involved in the transformation of the landscape in Nueva Galicia. The territory of this new kingdom of the West Indies began to take shape in 1523, when Rodrigo de Sandoval discovered the lordship of Colima. However, from then on, a complicated succession of changes and interactions also began. In a moment of conquest, conflict and settlement, the cultural, environmental and geographical dimensions experience tense relationships. Hence, in this work, through the lens of environmental history, we realize the various aspects, both physical and symbolic, that went through the changes in the landscape of a space as significant as Nueva Galicia was.
