Synopsis

The present composition is the work of a sonorous devotee of Euterpe, the Greek goddess of music. It goes hand in hand with her, and inspired, the author masterfully executes the rhythm of the action. Here, under the baton of history, he touches on four aspects of music in Morelia in a quartet of chapters: musical education, the cultural environment, the performance venues, and the destiny of the musician. Using ad hoc theories, instruments and documented scores, he deals with the training of the Euterpians, already received at the Music Academy of the San Nicolás College, at the School of Arts and Crafts or at the Girls' Academy. All put in a review of the Porfirian traditions in relation to the forms of urban entertainment, its spaces and actors. The reenactor of history studies the palpable spaces for execution: the party in its various manifestations: civic, solemn, public, popular, private in mansions of wealthy families and the religious celebration, demure or open. It ends up reaching the Morelian musician, who eats art or revives it as a hobby on his way to other directions in the state and the country. Alejandro Mercado Villalobos is a musician and has a bachelor's degree from the Faculty of History of the Universidad Michoacana, a license to which he has added more graduation from the Institute of Historical Research. First of all, he puts in our hands the result of his academic work. Let's read the book and follow the tune.
