Synopsis

The text proposes that the first step for the construction of a sustainable society is the formation of public policies aimed at sustainability, based on the identification and valuation of the critical natural and social capital of the Mexican socio-ecological system. The second is to assess, on the one hand, the nature of the threats looming over these capitals in a context marked by the globalization of the economy and international migration; on the other hand, the capacity of the Mexican ecological and social system to face the external and internal factors that threaten it. That is: to appreciate the capacity of society to co-evolve with its ecological and social environment. And the third is to offer the pertinent elements to face the urgent task of a national debate that allows the formulation of public policies that are capable of maintaining the ecological and social stability of Mexican society, based on the conservation and strengthening of these critical capitals.
