Catálogo de plantas arvenses y sus manejos agroecológicos en cultivos de maíz (2026)
Synopsis
Weeds are plants that exist alongside crops and have different interactions with them. For this reason, farm families usually assign a classification according to the aggressiveness or nobility with which they affect or benefit the crop. This catalog presents around 60 species of weeds that coexist with the maize crop within this classification, their main characteristics and their agroecological management. This information results from a SECIHTI project implemented for more than three years in plots by members of farmer's organizations. For this project, a transdisciplinary team sought and implemented integrated weed management strategies, using agroecological alternatives to herbicides and glyphosate, rescuing traditional knowledge and innovating with a diversity of agroecological techniques. Here we present some of the lessons from this project to guide other initiatives.
